The Proud King

The proud king Nebuchadnezzar strutted about his palace. The pompous king was admiring all the things he had accomplished. Only twelve months before, the vain king had been warned by God that his kingdom would be taken away from him if he didn’t stop being so haughty and arrogant. Anybody who passed by the king could tell, by his smug expression of pride, that he hadn’t changed much at all. In fact, the egotistical king seemed to think he was very self-sufficient. The boastful king then said these conceited words:
“Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?”
While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice from heaven said:

“O king Nebuchadnezzar to thee it is spoken; the kingdom is departed from thee.”
That same hour the king was driven from men, out into the fields and he ate grass as the ox and was wet with the dew of heaven. His hair was grown like eagles feathers and his nails like birds claws…in other words he went insane.
Even though Nebuchadnezzar’s mind had lost it, his poor, abject soul knew that he was spiritually destitute, and that he had been living a sinful life and his wretched self was unworthy of God’s mercy. His life was desolate and devoid, impoverished and base. He knew he definitely was inadequate for God’s divine grace. In humble submission Nebuchadnezzar looked up to Heaven, as he later wrote:
“And at the end of the days (7 years) I, Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto Heaven, and mine understanding (sanity) returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honored Him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation…” Big attitude change, huh?
